The North-eastern quadrant of Calgary is bordered by the north-eastern city limits of the city, by the Deerfoot Trail in the east and 16th Avenue NE (the Trans-Canada Highway) in the south. The residents of these communities enjoy homes that are widely spaced out even though there is a large population within the NE quadrant. There is a large stock of single family units with opportunities to invest in other property types such as apartments, condominiums and townhouses within several neighborhoods in the NE area.
Recreational activities are widespread throughout the communities, with many of these inner city suburbs enjoying close proximity to the popular Cardel place Center. The center is a large facility that houses several gymnasiums, a fitness center, an aquatic center and a library. Shopping opportunities exist in most individual communities with small strip malls and plaza, with larger retail outlets situated in places such as Deerfoot (the Deerfoot Outlet Mall) and Sunridge (the Sunridge Mall).
NE Calgary Schools
The Calgary Board of Education has 46 well-maintained schools in the NE quadrant, from Elementary to High School, most of which fall into the Area II section of the system. The Calgary Catholic School District also has 21 schools in this quadrant and the private school, the North Calgary Christian School, is situated here.

The transport links that can be found in the NE quadrant of Calgary are second-to-none. The area houses Calgary International Airport, which has several retail outlets, restaurants and stores attached to it for convenience when traveling. The neighborhoods in this section are adequately served by the C-Train and there are 2 stations within the NE area. The Calgary Transit public bus service also covers many communities in the north-east of the city, with regular and reliable links to other areas of the city such as the Downtown core.

Northeast Calgary: Inner City
The inner city section of the NE quadrant of Calgary is roughly bordered by the McKnight Boulevard in the north, the Bow River to the south, 36th Street to the east and Centre Street N in the west. The communities encompassed in this area enjoy strong transport links to the center of the city, with the Downtown area being conveniently located for work, rest or play.
If you journey out from the core of the inner city communities you will notice a stark change in the type of properties that are available. The inner core of the NE quadrant has an abundance of townhouses and condominiums, which morph into single family units the further afield you go. This usually means that the single family units that are a bit further away from the heart of the inner city are popular with families, as there is more green space to enjoy and plenty of outdoor activities. This in no way means that the inner city core does not have adequate facilities, but it seems to appeal more to those who are retired or professional couples. No matter where you choose to reside in the NE inner city, there is an abundance of recreational activities, good schools and shopping opportunities.
