Mount Pleasant is one of the oldest communities that can be found in the north-western quadrant of Calgary, having been established back in 1911. The community was a town in its own right until it became integrated into the city in 1963 and had its name changed to Montgomery in 1943 after a dispute about the name (it was originally known as Shouldice). Mount Pleasant is bordered by 32nd Avenue to the north, the Bow River to the west and south, and the Shaganappi Trail to the east. The community has an active association and is represented in the Calgary City Council by Ward 1.
