Grade 9 Meningitis Immunization Program in Alberta, Canada

Students in Grade 9 across the province will be getting a poke starting Tuesday as Alberta rolls out a meningitis immunization program. Over 40,000 students will be immunized against four strains of meningococcal disease, and the immunization program will continue annually.
Since the illness is transmitted through saliva, sharing drinks, etc. Grade 9s are considered the ideal target age for immunization. Previous programs aimed at immunizing high school students resulted in over 90% of the target population being immunized.
