Fix a Leak Week!

Did you know that household leaks can cause you to use 10% more water per household? This may not seem like a lot, but given Calgary’s dry summers it is more important than ever to fix water leaks, especially considering that these leaks can cost you up to $100 in wasted water each year.

Join the City of Calgary for Fix a Leak Week, from February 28th to March 6th, and banish those pesky leaks from your home. The City is planning to provide simple, low cost solutions for repairing and preventing leaks, so you can save water and money.

Part of the focus during the week will be leaky toilets, which have the potential to waste 28 bathtubs full of water per month. Residents can go online and take the “leaky toilet test” while learning about other ways to conserve water at calgary.ca/rethinkwater. While there residents can also complete a short survey and be entered to win one of seven available high-efficiency toilets.

If you do happen to have a leaky toilet, or want to conserve more water, consider tapping into Calgary’s Residential Toilet Replacement Program, which can provide you with $50 per 13L toilet, when it is replaced by a high efficiency 6L model. Each household can qualify for up to three toilet replacements, that’s a lot of water saved, and will also increase the value of your home!

Even if you don’t get a chance to participate in Fix a Leak Week, there are many great water saving resources available at The City of Calgary website, including how to install water efficient fixtures, and water use tips.
