Celebrate 100 Years of Recreation in 2012

Those who are looking to beat the winter blues in Calgary will enjoy the celebration of 100 years of recreation all throughout February. This month sports a wide-variety of activities for young and old, and everyone in between. Indoor water parks allow for swimming and wave riding, and even golfers can enjoy a little indoor golfing. Cross-country skiing and other family fun activities are all planned to celebrate 100 years of Calgary families.

Here's a quick look at what's going on in Calgary all through February:

Family Recreation Day

Cost: Facility Admission Rates

Where: Southland and Village Square Leisure Centers

When: Sunday, 5 February, 11:30a – 3:30p

What: Games, adventures, and prizes for the entire family.

Family Skate Night

Cost: Free

Where: Village Square Leisure Center and Southland Leisure Centers

When: Village Square – Wednesday, 8 February, 7:00p – 8:30p; Southland – Wednesday, 15 February, 6:45p – 8:15p

What: Free skating, hot chocolate, games, and activities. Skate rentals are available for an additional charge.

Golf 2012 Family Celebration

Cost: Free, drop-in

Where: National Golf Academy Dome at 50 50^th Avenue Southwest

When: Saturday, 18 February, 9:30a – 11:30a

What: Free indoor golfing, pizza, prizes, and fun with CPGA golf pros.

Family Day Public Swim

Cost: Free, drop-in (Select Pools Only)

Where: Bob Bahan, Canyon Meadows, Glenmore, Renfrew, Shouldice, and Sir Winston Churchill Aquatics & Fitness Centers

When: Monday, 20 February, 1:00p – 2:30p, and 3:00p – 4:00p

What: Free swimming and fun for all ages. There is a half-hour break between 2:30 and 3, but this will be waived dependent upon capacity.

Family Day Public Skate

Cost: Free, drop-in (Select Arenas Only)

Where: Six different arenas, check Rec 100 for full details.

When: Monday, 20 February, 1:00p – 2:30p

What: Free skating and fun for the whole family at the above-mentioned participating arenas.

Family Fun Night

Cost: Free

Where: Village Square Leisure Center

When: Wednesday, 22 February, 6:00p – 8:00p

What: Arts & Crafts, face painting, activities, and entertainment for all ages.

Family Tropical Fish Hunt

Cost: Regular Admission

Where: Southland Leisure Center

When: Sunday, 26 February, 9:00a – 11:00a

What: All ages participation in a family tropical fish hunt – small children will have deck games and activities as well.

Family Swim Time

Cost: 30% off Family Admission

Where: Village Square Waterpark

When: Every Wednesday from 6:00p – 8:00p

What: Discounted family swimming time every Wednesday in February at the indoor water park, as well as activities for all ages.

Family Month for Calgary AfterSchool

Cost: Free with Calgary AfterSchool Pass, drop-in for participants aged 11 – 15, and their siblings aged 6 & Up

Where: Killarney Aquatic & Recreation Center

When: Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:00p – 6:00p

What: Swimming, games, sports, and arts & crafts appropriate for ages 6 and up.
