It has literally become the largest outdoor show in the world as well as rodeo. What comes to your mind when you think about the western culture? Most of us tend to think about cowboys and western movies that took place in the Wild Wild West. So why Calgary? Canadian history shows that the cowboy culture has actually been around since the mid 1800's. Certainly there is a difference in our western culture than that of our southern neighbours but still many traits of the lifestyle were similar. Our modern day rodeo has evolved into more activities such as roping, the controversial chuckwagon racing and bull riding to name a few. Also it has become an avenue for big corporations to adversite and do brand placement. Even in modern day Calgary outside the annual Stampede event you will find the cowboy culture. There are still various ranches which provide a learning education on the cowboy way of life as well as offer horseback riding and tours. Heritage Park is a great place to go back in time and learn about the way it used to be and also the Tsuu T'ina rodeo and Pow-wow. The festival which the First Nations puts on every summer. Would you like to learn more about the culture of the cowboy? Come to Calgary and learn about the wild west while enjoying other adventures. The Calgary Stampede will begin on July 9, 2010 and will run until the 18th. Will you be able to resist the charm or our beautiful city? Don't forget your boots and your hat! YEE-HA.
