Beware Companies Claiming Water Testing

If a company comes to your door claiming it needs access to your home in order to conduct water tests, beware. The City has had several complaints from residents who have encountered this situation, only to find that the persons doing the testing were attempting to sell them a home water filtration system.

The City is not currently conducting water tests, nor does it contract out field tap water testing. Residents are under no obligation to allow access to their home in order to have their water tested. If the City ever does require to test your tap water they will send an official letter and follow it up with a phone call. All City employees have ID badges, and residents are recommended to always ask for ID before permitting access to a home.

If someone shows up at your home and asked access, ensure you request ID. You have every right to refuse access if you are unsure about who the person is, or their intentions.

In the meantime, residents are advised that The City of Calgary has the strictest regulations and standards when it comes to providing drinking water, and that regular tests and quality control is performed to ensure that the water meets all federal standards.
